Do I Need a Pest Inspection?

Many people assume that it's standard, even required to get a pest control report and complete all the reccommendations in that report any time you are buying or selling a home. Admittedly, it is done often, but certainly not required, unless it is written in to the purchase contract and accepted by both parties. It's a good idea to make sure any home you are buying is properly maintained, and having a pest inspection when you are buying your home is a great time to do it. However, many buyers plan on doing major renovations soon after the close that would make some of the reccommended repairs in the wood destroying pest report duplicated, or even wasted repairs. Other times, buyers are competing with other buyers for the home, and they choose to have the repairs completed after the purchase, and on their own dime. Either way you choose, make sure you understand the magnitude of the repairs and go in with your eyes wide open.
